Fasting: Do You Have Parasites?

Do You Have Parasites?

The following is an excerpt from chapter 1 of my book, A Walk in the Wilderness:Wilderness

Parasites:
During the first prolonged 21-day fast that I did, I kept a journal of parasites that were eliminated from my body.  I was surprised (shocked actually) to see what was living off of my body!  Statistically, 85% of North Americans unknowingly have at least one form of digestive parasite.

In America, the number one cause of persons being infected with Ecoli bacteria is from drinking tap water.  It is also probable that most forms of parasites enter our bodies through tap water.  Fasting is a method to rid the body of parasites.

As you seek the Lord and desire to serve Him more, are you considering fasting?  Read on…

How Scriptural is Fasting?

Dr. GreenwoodThere are nearly 70 references to fasting in the Bible.  Each week, I’ll share a few verses with you.  Searching the bible will help you discover more about fasting for yourself.

Last week we looked at Mark 8:3.

Acts 27:9 — Paul making reference to the annual day of atonement

Now when much time was spent, and when sailing was now dangerous, because the fast was now already past, Paul admonished them.

Future Vision

A Vision of Your Future

Every time Abraham looked up at the stars, he had a picture of the many generations of offspring that God had promised him. Even when Joseph was in prision, he had a dream of others bowing down to his leadership and authority.  Pictures move us.  What is the vision God has given you for your future?  Let that image fuel your momentum forward.

Proverbs 29:18 — Where [there is] no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy [is] he.

Habakkuk 2:2 — And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make [it] plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.

John 16:13 – Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

Keep Moving

Keep Moving

Deliberately release all things that slow your momentum — spirit, soul and body. Don’t give up.  Don’t revert back to where you were.  No matter what it looks like, breakthrough is just ahead. The devil will lie to you and tell you to quit, but keep moving.

Isaiah 49:10 — They shall not hunger nor thirst; neither shall the heat nor sun smite them: for he that hath mercy on them shall lead them, even by the springs of water shall he guide them.

2 Corinthians 12:9 — My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness. Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Step Forward

God is moving you.  Not in a new direction… but in a direction that He had already ordained for you.  Now, it is time to move, to step forward, and begin to embrace the season ahead.  As you take on the responsibility He places before you, God will release a new level of authority to accomplish all that needs to be accomplished.

Psalm 119:35 — Direct me in the path of your commands, for there I find delight.

Philippians 2:13 — For it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.

Spiritual Intelligence

Spiritual Intelligence

Be still.  Be sensitive to the moving of God’s Spirit.  Only by His Spirit will you know whether to intercede, to rebuke, to act or to decree a thing. In the spirit you will discern attacks against you. The Holy Spirit will give wisdom to know when and how to fight. It is only by the Spirit that you will know when to shout and when to be silent.  He has infinite wisdom and resources at His disposal.  He has everything you need to overcome every situation.

Galatians 5:16 — This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

Matthew 11:15 — He who has ears to hear, let him hear!

Romans 8:4 – That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Freedom…

Forgiveness & Freedom

Asking God for forgiveness is one thing, but asking forgiveness from others is something completely different.  While it can be difficult, forgiveness moves us to a new place of freedom.  Forgiveness is a release of peace.

Ephesians 4:32 — Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Romans 12:19 — Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.
Matthew 6:14-15 — For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you.  But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

Answer with Joy!

Answer with Joy

Words are very powerful.  They can build up, or tear down.  Words can bring dreams to life, or crush them.  So today you have a choice in how you answer… answer with joy.

Proverbs 15:23 — A man has joy by the answer of his mouth:and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!

Proverbs 14:3 — In the mouth of a fool is a rod of pride, But the lips of the wise will preserve them.

Proverbs 15:4 – The tongue that brings healing is a tree of life, but a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.

Fixing the Broken

Fixing the Broken

We serve a God of second chances.  It doesn’t matter how big the “train wreck,” God can get everything back on track.  He can fix whatever is broken.

The LORD  is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. – Psalm 34:18

He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted. – Luke 4:18

O LORD , you are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand. – Isaiah 64:8

If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. — 2 Corinthians 5:17

Turning Over a New Leaf

  • January 1, 2010 10:13 pm

Turning Over a New Leaf

Statistically, nearly one-third of the U.S. population will make a New Year’s Resolution to lose weight. If your resolution just happens to fall under the same category, then I would suggest developing a lifestyle that integrates fasting.  Why?  Because fasting is much more powerful than dieting!  Fasting can help you drop the weight and keep it off, by allowing you to gain mastery over the cravings of your flesh. Fasting can also play a key role in breaking addictions and cyclical patterns of behavior which sometimes play a part in excess weight and obesity.

Here are four simple tips that will have you losing weight in a balanced and healthy way.

1. Wash it away: Water is essential and it is a key to losing weight. If you haven’t been drinking enough water, your body has developed a pattern of storing water. This water retention equals extra unwanted weight. By drinking more water, you are not only flushing out toxins, you are also teaching your body that it no longer needs to store water. Drink about 6-8 glasses a day. Try boiling water and adding slice lemons on cold days. Drinking this throughout the day will help eliminate fluid retention. Water is a natural appetite suppressant.

2. Soup it up: Recent research shows that people who eat a serving of soup daily lose more weight than those who eat the same amount of calories but don’t eat soup.  So, this simple dietary change will have you shedding pounds. A homemade, low-salt soup (sans the salt and additives of the canned options) will also work to flush waste from your body, while nourishing you at the same time.

3. Walk it off: A little physical activity goes a long way toward speeding up your metabolism and burning excess calories. A simple 30 minute walk can do wonders!

4. 24-hour fast: Why not make it your goal to go through 2010 observing a 24-hour fast, one-day per week, for 52 weeks?  For example, why not cease from eating every Tuesday (or other day of your choice) for 24 hours, for the entire year? Stop eating solid food and drink plenty of water and some fruit juice one day per week.  This gives your body 52 days during the year to “clean house” of toxins, creating a healthier you.

All Things New…

  • January 1, 2010 10:08 pm

A New Day is Dawning

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 AMP — Therefore we do not become discouraged (utterly spiritless, exhausted, and wearied out through fear). Though our outer man is [progressively] decaying and wasting away, yet our inner self is [progressively] renewed day by day. For our light, momentary affliction (this slight distress of the passing hour) is ever more and more abundantly preparing and producing and achieving for us an everlasting weight of glory [beyond all measure, excessively surpassing all comparisons and all calculations, a vast and transcendent glory and blessedness never to cease!] Since we consider and look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen; for the things that are visible are temporal (brief and fleeting), but the things that are invisible are deathless and everlasting.
Today, ask the Lord to refresh and revive your spirit.  Allow the Spirit of the Lord to stir-up your heart and your soul.  Feel invigorated.  Feel alive in Him!  Allow His everlasting glory to shine through you.
