Think on These Things

If the events around you cause you to feel overwhelmed, remember that the days and seasons and events are unfolding as prophesied.  Stay in the center of God’s peace.  He is always with you.

Philippians 4:6-8 — Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.  Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy–think on these things.

Is Frustration Knocking?

  • February 25, 2010 10:57 am

The Patient in Spirit

Today, when frustration knocks on your door, let patience open it.

Proverbs 16:32 — Better a patient man than a warrior, a man who controls his temper than one who takes a city.

Ecclesiates 7:8 — Better [is] the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: [and] the patient in spirit [is] better than the proud in spirit.

2 Timothy 2:24 — And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all [men], apt to teach, patient.

James 5:8 – Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.

Fasting: Do You Have Parasites?

  • January 29, 2010 9:51 am

Do You Have Parasites?

The following is an excerpt from chapter 1 of my book, A Walk in the Wilderness:Wilderness

Parasites:
During the first prolonged 21-day fast that I did, I kept a journal of parasites that were eliminated from my body.  I was surprised (shocked actually) to see what was living off of my body!  Statistically, 85% of North Americans unknowingly have at least one form of digestive parasite.

In America, the number one cause of persons being infected with Ecoli bacteria is from drinking tap water.  It is also probable that most forms of parasites enter our bodies through tap water.  Fasting is a method to rid the body of parasites.

As you seek the Lord and desire to serve Him more, are you considering fasting?  Read on…

How Scriptural is Fasting?

Dr. GreenwoodThere are nearly 70 references to fasting in the Bible.  Each week, I’ll share a few verses with you.  Searching the bible will help you discover more about fasting for yourself.

Last week we looked at Mark 8:3.

Acts 27:9 — Paul making reference to the annual day of atonement

Now when much time was spent, and when sailing was now dangerous, because the fast was now already past, Paul admonished them.

Future Vision

  • January 18, 2010 10:42 am

A Vision of Your Future

Every time Abraham looked up at the stars, he had a picture of the many generations of offspring that God had promised him. Even when Joseph was in prision, he had a dream of others bowing down to his leadership and authority.  Pictures move us.  What is the vision God has given you for your future?  Let that image fuel your momentum forward.

Proverbs 29:18 — Where [there is] no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy [is] he.

Habakkuk 2:2 — And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make [it] plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.

John 16:13 – Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

Keep Moving

Keep Moving

Deliberately release all things that slow your momentum — spirit, soul and body. Don’t give up.  Don’t revert back to where you were.  No matter what it looks like, breakthrough is just ahead. The devil will lie to you and tell you to quit, but keep moving.

Isaiah 49:10 — They shall not hunger nor thirst; neither shall the heat nor sun smite them: for he that hath mercy on them shall lead them, even by the springs of water shall he guide them.

2 Corinthians 12:9 — My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness. Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Did You Hear Something?

  • July 24, 2009 8:36 am

Did You Hear That?

Do you hear His voice? Can you discern the direction of the Spirit? Are you feeling a bit restless down in your soul?  Listen up!  Listen to what God is saying.  He is willing and just waiting to release a fresh anointing into your situation. Do you feel the vigor and energy of the moving of His Holy Spirit?  Go ahead and kick the distractions out of the way.  Let God stir the gifts that have gone dormant inside you.  Then move by faith and demonstrate His power and love to those around you.

2 Timothy 1:6-7 — Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Is It Time To Clean-Out The Closet?

  • July 10, 2009 9:05 am
Fasting is like cleaning out the storage closet.  Filled with items we don’t need and never use, the storage space is a filthy, cobweb-covered, mildewed mess of useless stuff we refuse to part with.  As time goes by, the junk accumulates.  Year after year, ten, twenty, thirty, maybe more years of harmful, food-latent toxins have accumulated in every cell and system of the body.  But sometimes things get worse before they get better.  This is true of fasting.  Fasting stirs up toxins on a physical, emotional and spiritual level.  This can result in days of dysphoria, often making things even messier before improvement can be seen. As various issues are “unearthed” and begin to surface, they may come in a variety of forms. This may include everything from bad breath, acne, nausea, patterns of sin, temptations, bleeding gums, anxiety or depression.  The stuff we have held in the storage closet can run the gamut!  At times, the junk that comes out can take one by surprise.  “I didn’t even know that was in there!!??!”  All this can convince the faint of heart that cleaning out the closet is a bad idea.  But for those who can muster the courage, cleaning up the mess is truly a job worth tackling.   From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. — Psalm 61:2

How Scriptural is Fasting? Lori GreenwoodThere are nearly 70 references to fasting in the Bible. Searching the bible will help you discover more about fasting for yourself. Here are a few: 1 Samuel 20:27 — David fasted on account of Saul’s hatred toward him.

As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them. And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid [their] hands on them, they sent [them] away.

Q&A on Fasting:Q: Can I do my usual work-out and continue exercising while fasting?

A: The answer to that question depends on what “usual” means.  If you’re usual work-out is fairly intense, I’d answer, “probably not” — especially if you’re planning on a water fast. Water fasting is much more difficult than you may imagine. Weakness is the norm and keeping the day free of very strenuous activity is advised.  If you’re drinking juice and abstaining from foods, then you should be able to go to the gym or do an exercise class at a moderate pace.  Depending on the length of your fast, you may find that you experience an abundance of energy making exercise, home improvement projects and the like pretty easy!  (I refer to this energy boost as “the spike.”  When you get the spike, you’ll know it! )  If you experience energy loss, you can still work-out with stretching or walking.  Try to avoid intense physical activity during a fast even if you feel energetic. In short, there is a little experimentation involved in finding what works best for you.  As you develop fasting into your lifestyle, you will gaining understanding through your experiences.

The Secret Place of Thunder

  • May 29, 2009 1:16 pm
When God brought the people of Israel from Egypt, through the Red Sea, to Mount Sinai, He appeared to the nation as a visible fire on the mountain with an audible voice. This experience totally overwhelmed the Israelites and they asked Moses to go to speak to God by himself on their behalf. The psalmist described this scene with a most unusual phrase: “I answered you in the secret place of thunder.” God viewed the meeting with His people on Mount Sinai as a “secret place” encounter. He called them to a wilderness mountain to speak with them and give them His commandments.

The secret place is a place where God speaks to us. Sometimes, He even apprehends us by thundering to us with His awesome voice! God has always longed to have the kind of relationship with His people where they hear His voice and respond accordingly. Close the door to your secret place so that you can shut out all distracting voices and tune your heart to the one voice which you long to hear.
“The secret place of thunder”-what an awesome description of the place where we come aside to hear the Lord.

Thou calledst in trouble, and I delivered thee; I answered thee in the secret place of thunder: I proved thee at the waters of Meribah. Selah. Psalm 81:7

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. Psalm 91:1

Can You Hear Me Now?

The Purpose of the Prophetic Voice

Hearing God’s voice is critical.  It is the key component in our success, safety, and effectiveness in life.  As we develop a relationship with the voice of the Spirit of God we are able to speak as His prophetic ”mouthpiece” in the earth, bringing His love and life to others.

What is the purpose of the prophetic voice?  The prophetic voice does more than bring restoration or revival to people, it brings new life… it ”births” abundant life… it is able to move people to a place they have never been before.  The prophetic voice brings the God-kind-of-life on the scene and replaces, removes and destroys the works of darkness that have hindered and held people back.

Through the prophetic voice, God wants to bring vibrant, over-flowing life (not just apply bandages) to His people.  To accomplish this…

  • He chooses mercy over judgement (James 2:13)
  • He brings abundant life (John 10:10)
  • He leads people to repentance by His goodness (Romans 2:4)
  • He builds up His church by edification (1 Cor 14:4)
  • He strengthens people through exhortation (1 Cor 14:3)
  •  He speaks words of care & tenderness for our comfort (1 Cor 14:3)
  • He convinces and convicts us  (1 Cor 14:24-25)
  • He reveals His heart & mind  (1 Cor 14:31)
  • He makes spiritual impartation  (1 Timothy 4:15)
  • He reveals Jesus: The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy (Revelation 19:10)

The scriptures reveal to us many ways that God can (and does) speak. They include:

  • Audible voice (John 12:28-29, Matthew 3:17)
  • Inner voice/Inner witness (John 14:26, 1 Kings 19:12)
  • The written word/bible (Prov. 6:23, Ps. 19:8, Heb 1:1-3)
  • Angelic appearances (Acts 27:23, Genesis 16:7-11, Luke 1:13-19, Acts 8:26, Matthew 28:5)
  • Dreams (Acts 2:17, Job 33:14-18, Daniel 1:17, Daniel 5:12, Matthew 1:18-24, Matthew 2:13-15 )
  • Dream interpretation (Daniel 7:1-12, Proverbs 25:2)
  • Visions (Acts 16:8-9, Acts 9:3-6, Joel 2:28)
  • People/Prophets (Acts 11:27-28, Acts 21:10-11)
  • Animals (Numbers 22:28-30)
  • Prophetic acts — sometimes God asks His prophets to do unusual things or actions to make a prophetic statement.  For example, Isaiah was asked by God to walk around barefoot and naked for 3 years (Isaiah 20), and Ezekiel did not always prophesy to people, but to things like the wind or bones (Ezekiel 37).

Are you really listening?  This week, take time, give your attention and your complete concentration to God’s words, His heart and emotions over the various situations and people around you.  As you do this, little by little, you will begin to hear the voice of His Spirit with more and more clarity.  Remember, the Spirit is your helper and your guide.  He is waiting to lead you!

John 16:13 — Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come.

Have a blessed week!
Dr. Greenwood
