The Power of Two

The Power of Two

While we cannot trust everyone with all the personal details and issues of our lives, we all need someone.  Why?  Because, the real power of faith and prayer is found in agreement.  One, alone cannot multiply.  It takes the power of two.

Deuteronomy 32:30 — How could one person chase a thousand of them, and two people put ten thousand to flight, unless their Rock had sold them, unless the LORD had given them up?

Matthew 18:19 — Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

1 Peter 3:7 — Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.

Too Much!

The God of Too Much!

Dear Friend,

Did you know that the Lord is mindful of you?  Every time He thinks of you, He’s thinking of ways to bless you, bring you increase and heap on too much blessing!

While it may not always look like you thought it should, if you look closely, you will see that God has done great things for you!  His loving kindness has sustained you through the trials of life.

Psalm 115:12-16 — The LORD hath been mindful of us: he will bless [us]; he will bless the house of Israel; he will bless the house of Aaron. He will bless them that fear the LORD, [both] small and great. The LORD shall increase you more and more, you and your children. Ye [are] blessed of the LORD which made heaven and earth. The heaven, [even] the heavens, [are] the LORD’S: but the earth hath he given to the children of men.

Jer. 29:11 — For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

Our God is the God of “too much:”  Too much blessing, too much love, too much power, too much wisdom, too much mercy, too much grace.  He is more than enough for whatever you’re facing!

Did You Hear Something?

  • July 24, 2009 8:36 am

Did You Hear That?

Do you hear His voice? Can you discern the direction of the Spirit? Are you feeling a bit restless down in your soul?  Listen up!  Listen to what God is saying.  He is willing and just waiting to release a fresh anointing into your situation. Do you feel the vigor and energy of the moving of His Holy Spirit?  Go ahead and kick the distractions out of the way.  Let God stir the gifts that have gone dormant inside you.  Then move by faith and demonstrate His power and love to those around you.

2 Timothy 1:6-7 — Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Love Believes the Best

Love Believes the Best

Dear Friend,

There are many feelings and emotions found within the human experience that are often identified as love. But, true love is divine. It is completely different from friendship, lust, or even companionship. This divine love is unconditional and all encompassing — it sees through God’s eyes. Love overlooks personalities and conflicts and honors the gesture of the heart. Love believes the best in everyone and strives for unity. Afterall, how will the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ walk in unity? By loving each other.
The scriptures proclaim that God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son (John 3:16). The Father sent Jesus to wash away the sins of the entire world by His death on the cross of calvary. By descending into hell to defeat the devil, resurrecting in glory, and bringing His perfect blood to the heavenly Mercy Seat, Jesus fulfilled the ultimate act of love — establishing a new covenant in the earth. To this very day He holds out His hand in love to any and all who will come into newness of life. But, as we read and meditate on His Words, we understand that the love story continues on:

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another as I have loved you.” (John 13:34)

“By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” (John 13:35)

“If you love me, keep my commandments.”  (John 14:14)

“Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” (Matthew 22:37-39)

God is love. To walk in unity, we must walk in love. We cannot separate the two. There is power in unity — and it is called, “love.”

Giving Away Your Treasure

  • June 8, 2009 12:11 pm
Are you giving away your treasure?  We don’t often think of the words we speak as “treasure,” but they are!  When we speak encouraging words that are drawn out of the “good treasure of the heart,” we put our words to work!  Words filled with goodness are not idle or unfruitful — they are not pain-producing — they are life-producing!
Are you giving away good treasure? Here are some ways you can get started:

Giving Away Your Treasure

“For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.” — Matthew 12: 34b-36

Giving Away Good Treasure
Statement #1: I love you

“I love you.” Start saying it! To your mate, your Mom, your kids, your pastor, your friends — never miss an opportunity to tell someone that you love them. It may take people a while to get use to it, but keep saying it until it sinks down into their soul and they believe it! (Galatians 5:14, Ephesians 5:28)

Giving Away Good Treasure
Statement #2: You have great value to me
You know, contemplating this whole “treasure” theme sort of makes me think of pirates.  Over the last few years, we’ve seen a resurgence of pirate-theme films. In most pirate movies, the story revolves around treasure — and pirates will do anything to get to the treasure! They give their time, their energy and their blood if necessary, because treasure has great value to them. Do the people God has placed in your life know that you treasure them?  Are you giving them your time? Your attention? Are you telling them that they are valuable and precious to you?

Giving Away Good Treasure
Statement #3: I believe in you
Nothing builds the confidence in your kids more than to simply tell them, “I believe in you!” But, it doesn’t end there, it will work for us bigger people, too! Life can be filled with difficult obstacles. Most times, your family doesn’t really need to hear your criticism and correction on how they should have handled the situation. Sometimes, a small simple statement like, “I believe you can do it,” is enough to put them over the top!

Statement #4: Forgive me
“Forgive me,” is one of the strongest statements of respect you can make to another person. If you made a mistake, over-reacted, or said something critical that brought pain to another person, saying, “I’m sorry,” is very powerful. If you cannot ask for forgiveness (or even admit that you might just possibly be wrong), then it is paramount to saying you do not respect the person that you wronged.

Statement #5: Because
Explain yourself. Sometimes, the people closest to you just need more information. This is something I learned from my children. While I may not always be able to share all the details of the complicated seasons of life with them, doing my best to answer their question, “Why?” has built a great deal of trust and respect between us. Finishing the statement that starts with “Because,” goes a long way in building understanding between you and the people you love.

Giving Away Good Treasure
Statement #6: You can count on me
Do the people in your life really feel that you will be there for them? If not, what could you change to let them know that they can count on you? Don’t just think about this in practical ways (i.e. I’ll cook for you, I’ll pay the bills, or I’ll do your laundry), but more importantly, think about it in emotional ways. This will produce peace and a sense of security, safety and trust.Dr. Greenwood
